Jefferson Memorial Forest to host a Saturday of Bluegrass music on May 18

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Bluegrass music lovers will want to stop by the Jefferson Memorial Forest on Saturday, May 18 between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. for the 9th Annual Forest Fest.

Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) is the presenting sponsor. “There is no better place than the Jefferson Memorial Forest to just kick back enjoy a nice spring afternoon and listen to some great music,” she said. “If you have never been to the forest, this is a perfect chance to experience its beauty and join others who know what a special place it is in Louisville Metro.”

Headlining this year’s Forest Fest ‘13 is Della Mae of Boston, Massachusetts. The five member female band is an up-and-coming band that mixes a contemporary sound with traditional Bluegrass.

LOUISVILLE, KY - Rabbit Breeders from all over the United States, and some from Canada, Europe, Japan, Malaysia, and other countries will be at the Kentucky Exposition Center April 13 and 14 for the 2013 Kentucky Cup Rabbit Show, hosted by The Kentucky State Rabbit Breeders Association.

Thirteen breeds will host their National shows here on April 13. That means the best of the best for each of those breeds will be represented. There also will be specialty shows for 15 breeds that day. On Sunday, April 14, there will be a double all-breed show, where all of the 47 ARBA recognized breeds may compete for Best of Breed, then on to the judging for Best in Show.

Louisville Zoo To Host Job Fair

The Louisville Zoo will hold a job fair on January 26 in the Gheens room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Zoo is seeking to hire seasonal positions in various departments including Admissions, Education, Gift Shop, Guest Services, Horticulture, Membership,  Rides and Attractions and Splash Park. The Education and Splash Park positions require CPR, AED and First Aid Certification.

The hourly rate for seasonal positions is $7.25 to $8.50 depending on area or assignments. Applicants must be 16 years of age and able to work March through October, 2013. Some positions require applicants to be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.

In addition to working in such a unique environment, seasonal Zoo employment offers free Zoo admission during employment term, discounts to the gift shop and food concessions with Zoo ID and free parking.

MADISONVILLE, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is joining area law enforcement agencies to remind motorists that the number of deer-vehicle collisions increase substantially during the last 3 months of the year as the fall crop harvest and mating season combine to put deer on the move.

Louisville, Ky. - As the heat of summer cools down, the great outdoors beckons, and Jefferson Memorial Forest is offering two courses designed to help everyone feel comfortable and confident in exploring the beauty of the forest and other natural areas in the region.


“These orienteering sessions are a great way to meet new friends who share your interest in getting outside and getting active,” said Forest administrator Bennett Knox. “And it’s a perfect opportunity for couples and families to have fun and spend time together learning skills they can use for future outdoor adventures!”

The schedule for the courses is as follows:


Outdoor Skills – Orienteering I – Saturday, September 1, 9 a.m. to Noon
Map and landscape reading are skills every outdoors person needs to possess.
